Did you make a 2014 resolution? And did you keep it? There’s been a lot of hustle and bustle on the exact “science” of a resolution, not unlike a neurosurgery or building a nano-computer. Now, I’m no expert on keeping your New Year’s resolutions but I couldn’t help but think of a few tips that will significantly simplify your journey to success.
1) DON’T THINK, DO
So you want to do something. Anything. Then just do it! You can talk or plan or discuss the topic all you want, but at the core of every resolution is a promise to DO something differently. Start today, right now. Contribute to your resolution immediately. The faster you get to doing your resolution, the faster you’ll figure out how to achieve it by the end of the year.
2) MAKE A BASIC PLAN
Let’s say that you want to write a book, for the first time. So you started writing. But, you find out that books don’t really write themselves. That’s why you have to make a basic plan on who the characters are, what they’ll do and how they’ll end up. The same principle goes for practically every resolution out there. Once you begin, you have to make a plan on achieving the right results. If it’s weight loss you’re after, then it should be the number of calories you burn per workout and how frequently you’ll visit the gym. If it’s starting a business, it should be a step-by-step list of all the marketing, financials and product development you have to do to get there. Once you make a basic plan, it’s easy to change and stick to because you know what you are doing.
3) STAY POSITIVE
So you’ve hit the gym five times this week but you haven’t seen any results. Does this mean you should stop working out? Absolutely not. Don’t stop. Just change your approach until you do see results. Be optimistic and believe in your ability to achieve. So what if you don’t see results soon? Few people do. Real results take time. But in working towards real results, you are already building habits that will benefit you in the long-run. So stay positive no matter what!
Cheesy much? Absolutely. But I kid you not, keeping your resolutions this year is 100% doable if you apply the three steps above. Don’t wait for another year to pass by. Start now and you’ll stop dreaming about a new you and become a new you in no time.
